Teachers Mutual Bank Limited begins roll out of Help to Buy via first cohort of trained brokers
2 October 2026
From Tuesday 6 October, the first cohort of accredited mortgage brokers who have completed training with Teachers Mutual Bank Limited, will be able to offer their customers access to the Australian Government Help to Buy Scheme via the bank.
The Australian Government Help to Buy Scheme is designed to assist Australians who have saved a minimum 2% deposit but require additional support to bridge the gap to home ownership. It is a shared equity initiative through which the Australian Government contributes up to 30% (existing homes) or 40% (newly built homes) of the purchase price.
Teachers Mutual Bank Limited Chief Customer Officer, Greg Johnson, said: “The Scheme’s eligibility requirements, application process and ongoing conditions are different from a traditional home loan and we’re focused on making sure our accredited brokers have the right training before working with their customers to submit applications for the Scheme.”
Teachers Mutual Bank Limited has trained a pilot group of brokers as part of the first phase of the rollout via its broker channel. The second phase will see another group of trained brokers onboarded by the end of October before broker access to the Scheme is expanded more broadly throughout 2027.
Mr Johnson added: “We want the experience for our brokers and members to be seamless and providing training and testing our systems through a phased roll out is essential in delivering a great experience for everyone.”
With 10,000 places available each year across all participating lenders, the Scheme is available to eligible buyers looking to get into the property market, whether they are first home buyers or Australians returning to home ownership.
Teachers Mutual Bank Limited joined the Scheme as a participating lender on 27 July 2026, offering members access for home loans taken out directly with its Teachers Mutual Bank, Health Professionals Bank, UniBank and Firefighters Mutual Bank retail brands.
