Teachers Mutual Bank Limited offers members more ways to buy a home
27 July 2026
Helping more Australians achieve home ownership, Teachers Mutual Bank Limited today announced it will offer members access to the Australian Government Help to Buy Scheme from 27 July 2026.
The Australian Government Help to Buy Scheme is designed to assist Australians who have saved a minimum 2% deposit but require additional support to bridge the gap to home ownership. It is a shared equity initiative through which the Australian Government contributes up to 30% (existing homes) or 40% (newly built homes) of the purchase price.
Teachers Mutual Bank Limited Chief Customer Officer, Greg Johnson, said the bank was proud to be chosen to deliver this program.
“For 60 years, we’ve been helping Australians achieve their financial goals and we’re pleased to partner with the Government to make home ownership more accessible for more Australians – particularly essential workers who play such an important role in our communities.
“We are already part of the Australian Government 5% Deposit Scheme and this program provides another pathway for our members to buy a home sooner.”
With 10,000 places available each year across all participating lenders, the Scheme is available to eligible buyers looking to get into the property market, whether they are first home buyers or Australians returning to home ownership.
More information on the Scheme, including eligibility criteria, is available on the Australian Government Help to Buy website, and the Teachers Mutual Bank, Health Professionals Bank, UniBank or Firefighters Mutual Bank websites.
Teachers Mutual Bank Limited’s retail brands Teachers Mutual Bank, Health Professionals Bank, UniBank and Firefighters Mutual Bank are participating in the Scheme. Members will be able to access the Scheme for home loans taken out directly with these brands.
From 6 October 2026, the Scheme will also be available to eligible members through the bank’s accredited mortgage broker network.
