Anthony Hughes is the Chief Executive Officer of Teachers Mutual Bank Limited.
Joining Teachers Mutual Bank Limited in October 2023, Anthony has an established track record of delivering strong customer and commercial outcomes in some of Australia’s largest banks.
With more than 25 years of broad financial services experience leading a diverse portfolio of financial service businesses and large-scale transformations, Anthony is focussed on leading the Bank through its next growth phase and to building on the Bank’s reputation as a world-leading, socially responsible Bank.
With a member centric approach, Anthony is passionate about leading with purpose and creating a progressive performance culture.
Nichole Banks
Chief Marketing Officer

Nichole Banks is a brand and marketing leader with experience across ANZ, Asia and the Middle East. Nichole has worked within a variety of industries including financial services, telecoms, technology, prestige beauty and creative agencies.
As Chief Marketing Officer for Teachers Mutual Bank Limited, Nichole is responsible for defining the organisation’s marketing strategy and go to market execution, driving new-to-bank lead generation, member growth and engaging experiences across our portfolio of brands. Additionally, she is responsible for research and insights, as well the organisation’s product strategy, roadmap, and management of the full suite of banking products.
Carolyn Murphy

Carolyn Murphy has more than 30 years’ experience in the financial services industry, having worked across technology, project management, operations and sales in a variety of roles. Carolyn is committed to driving exceptional experiences for our members, and making banking safe and simple.
Beginning her career with the Bank in NSW in 2005 supporting our core banking transformation, Carolyn has held leadership roles in our start-up operations in WA and VIC and led the launch of Health Professionals Bank and Hiver.
Carolyn is a very proud Alumni of the Global Alliance for Banking on Values Leadership Academy and is committed to delivering on our purpose. She holds a Masters in Business and Technology from the UNSW Business School.
James Walker
Interim Chief Risk Officer

James joined Teachers Mutual Bank in 2024 and brings deep risk management, governance, and banking experience to the role.
For the past 20 years he has led large first and second line of defence teams within major banks in Australia. He has a proven track record in driving regulatory compliance, implementing risk frameworks, uplifting performance and enhancing risk culture. James has sound experience navigating complex regulatory environments and delivering risk transformation programs.
As Interim Chief Risk Officer, James is responsible for Teachers Mutual Bank Limited’s Risk and Compliance functions.
Vicki Leaver

Vicki Leaver joined TMBL in May 2021. With over 20 years’ experience in the People domain, Vicki has worked across complex industries such as education, health, engineering, insurance and legal. Vicki has a philosophy that HR is a service provider who partners, supports and enables leaders, at every level, to lead and manage their people, in order to effectively deliver the organisational strategy and business outcomes.
As Chief People and Culture Officer at Teachers Mutual Bank Limited, Vicki is responsible for defining the organisations People Strategy while partnering with the Executive to develop and lead a performance and values based organisational culture - ensuring that the Bank continues to deliver exceptional member experience through exceptional staff experience.
Erica Pickford
Chief Operations Officer

Erica is an Operations leader with over 25 years of financial experience across South Africa, the UK and Australia. Erica has held various senior leadership roles across Operations, Risk Management and the Insurance sector.
As Chief Operations Officer for Teachers Mutual Bank Limited, Erica is responsible for driving operational efficiencies, and ongoing leadership of the Bank’s Credit Origination teams, Settlements, Third Party Broker Distribution, Payments, National Contact Centre and Operations & Integrity Solutions.
Christopher Olter
Chief Information Officer

Chris Olter joined Teachers Mutual Bank Limited in 2021 in the role as Head of Technology, bringing with him more than 20 years’ experience spanning Europe, North America and the Asia Pacific region. Chris has managed large Information Technology operational, commercial and procurement functions in complex and federated public and private organisations.
During his career, Chris has led, developed and implemented Program Recovery Plans, led the transformation of IT Commercial and Risk functions and implemented cultural change to drive performance and integrity of systems and platforms, with a focus on transparency and implementing robust governance.
In December 2022, Chris stepped into his current role as Chief Information Officer.
Chris is responsible for Information Technology, Enterprise Testing, IT Governance, and Enterprise Data and Analytics.
Fred Taweel

Chartered Governance Professional, Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Fraud Examiner.
As Company Secretary, Fred Taweel has a leading role in the effective governance and administration of Teachers Mutual Bank Limited. He was previously the Bank’s Chief Internal Auditor, leading a professional team dedicated to best practices in risk management, corporate governance and control frameworks. Fred has oversight of member meetings, digital protection, vendor governance, modern slavery and front-line AML/CTF as part of his duties.
Fred is active in both national and global banking spheres, with his leadership and service recognised by being honoured with Life Membership of the Mutuals Audit and Governance Professionals Institute (MAGPI). He is committed to ensuring Teachers Mutual Bank Limited meets the expectations and needs of key stakeholders including directors, management, staff, members and regulators.
Fred strives to always put people first, and strongly believes in the ethical and professional ethos of Teachers Mutual Bank Limited.
Alan Waugh

Alan Waugh has had an extensive career within the financial services industry, working in various roles across major banks, retail brokerages and mutuals. This experience has given Alan a broad overview of the financial services industry whilst specialising in mortgage lending and business development.
Alan is committed to developing and leading the overall strategic direction for member experience. He leads the teams responsible for the sales functions across our four divisions including branches, the Lending Solutions Centre and mobile teams. Alan also manages the stakeholder relationships and partnerships focused on building the financial wellbeing of our members and the communities we support.
Michael Bencsik
Chief Financial Officer

Michael joined Teachers Mutual Bank in July 2024. Michael has over 25 years’ experience in financial services both domestically and overseas. He has held various executive CFO and strategy roles at major Australian banks, foreign-owned banks, and ASX listed financial services organisations. Michael is also an experienced not-for-profit director with special responsibilities as Chair of the Audit Committee.
As Chief Financial Officer, Michael has responsibility for finance, treasury, financial performance, industry relationships, and remediation. Michael is passionate about driving organisational change in formulating strategies that leverage financial data to enhance operational efficiency and profitability. With a strong technical and commercial focus, Michael is committed to both innovation and excellence in driving growth to deliver superior outcomes that benefit all members.
